Youth Exchange

Stillwater Sunrise Rotary supports youth exchange programs.

Both inbound and outbound exchanges have been arranged through our club.   Three local clubs collaborate on exchange programs: Lake Elmo, Stillwater (Noon) and Stillwater Sunrise.  We sponsor one select student to attend Stillwater Area High School during the school year, working with the regional exchange group (North Star Youth Exchange) .

The Rotary Youth Exchange program is a year-long opportunity for students to travel abroad to experience new peoples, cultures, adventures and personal growth.  Rotary is an organization of business and professional women and men united worldwide, who provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations, and help build goodwill and peace in the world.  There are more than 31,300 Rotary clubs in 166 countries, with approximately 1.2 million members.  Students may not be older than 18 when they leave for their year abroad and must be at least 15 years old to participate. They must also be a freshman, sophomore, junior or senior in high school at the time of application.  Exchange students have demonstrated scholastic competence, and be involved in extra curricular activities.

Volunteers Needed

We're seeking host families, as well as support for other activities with the 2017-2018 exchange student.  Please contact Wendy Heck  if you can help.

For the 2017-2018 school year, we currently have an inbound exchange student.

Youth Exchange News
Stillwater Sunrise Rotary is proud to participate in the Rotary Youth Exchange Program and during the 2010-2011 school year, we are happy to send our first outbound student, Abbie Huntley to Lutterhausen located in Northern Germany.

First of all, I want to say: thank you, thank you, thank you. I have no way to express all of my gratitude to you for giving me this experience! I have now been in Germany for about 4 months, and It has been the best time of my life.
Ariana Rodrigues is visiting Stillwater from Brazil and was gracious enough to be our speaker.  She gave us an update on what she has been doing since she left us a few years ago when she was an exchange student to our club from Brazil (2003-2004).

North Star Rotary Youth Exchange

Rotary Youth Exchange provides more than 8,000 teenagers each year an adventure of a lifetime: a chance to live, learn and become a true part of a new family, culture and way of life as a high school foreign exchange student.

North Star Rotary Youth Exchange, which encompasses south-central Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin (Rotary Districts 5950 and 5960), provides this opportunity to eager, ambitious high school students — both to come to our area to experience American life, or to go abroad to one of about  33 countries around the world.
