I'm reaching out to introduce you to someone who I think would be a great speaker for your members to hear from -- Mary Brown, Vice President of Marketing & Events at Minnesota Adult and Teen Challenge (MnTC). MnTC is a drug and alcohol treatment and recovery program that has been in operation since 1983. With 11 locations throughout the state, MnTC offers a full range of services including long- and short-term intensive treatment programs as well as extensive prevention services through the organization's program, Know the Truth (KTT). This year, Minnesota Adult and Teen Challenge is continuing to reach out to communities to help educate both parents and teens about the risks and signs of substance use. For example, during the 2017-2018 school year, Know the Truth will reach more than 60,000 students through partnerships with schools throughout the state. The program has seen significant success in helping prevent substance use among Minnesota’s young people. Additionally, Know the Truth is also partnering with communities to host a series of educational events for parents and community members, giving them an opportunity to hear firsthand how substance use can affect their families and providing them with tools to prevent it. Know the Truth began hosting community forums in Anoka County in 2014, after a significant increase in opioid overdoses. The events were successful in reaching close to 1,000 community members. Mary Brown would be more than happy to speak at one of your Thursday meetings about Minnesota Adult and Teen Challenge’s programs. Please let me know if you’d be interested in having her.
