Here is what happened this very cold and icy morning:

We welcomed one visiting Rotarian, Rod Weber from the White Bear Lake Rotary but  had no guests.

Jason opened the meeting with a few announcements:

District 5960 has already fully committed the 2018-2019 District Designated Funds (DDF).  All new Global Grant Requests will be put into the 2019-2020 DDF Allocation..

Jason was happy to present Lonny Stormo ( our Foundation Chair) with a Paul Harris plus one pin.  Congrats to Lonny!

Jason is still planning on doing the Winter Plunge on February 16th and Jeff Nelson has committed to plunging also.  So here is the thing...Ken McGinley ( in a moment of weakness) told Jason that if he (Jason) was able to  raise $1,300 in pledges, then he (Ken)  would also take the plunge.  People started handing $20 bills to Jason but as of this minutes,  there is not an official tally , but Ken might possibly have to make good on his offer.  Jason is still accepting pledges so feel free to make a contribution...all for a good cause.

The Rotarian in the Spotlight this week was Ken McGinley.  This is the part of the meeting where we find out something about a member that we did not previously know.  Today we found out that Ken won a dance competition in the 7th grade with some pretty fancy break dancing, has sky dived in Stillwater, but has NOT made a hole in one while golfing. Maybe soon he will be able to add to his list of accomplishments that he took a Winter Plunge in Forest Lake!

Below are some dates to be aware of:

February 16th--Forest Lake Rotary doing a Winter Plunge!
April 11-12--Conference of Clubs in Rochester, MN
April 15th--Quad Club Cook Off at the Lake Elmo Event Center...details to follow

Our speakers today was Connie Hayes who is the Superintendent at Northeast Metro 916 Intermediate School District in White Bear Lake.  This school district was formed as a collaborative with 14 other member district schools to help students who have difficulty finding success in typical high school environments.   The focus is  Area Learning Centers (ALC) , Special Education, Care and Treatment, Career and Tech Centers and In Home Districts. Nineteen different programs are offered that start from Early Childhood and go far beyond that.  The staff of roughly 725 people serve almost 6000 students.  Connie informed us that there are so many young people today who fall under the category of Special Education that  traditional schools cannot accommodate all of their needs which can include physical and mental disabilities, mental health illnesses, drug issues and trauma in the home.   District 916 is able to step in and help those students.  Rod Weber, our visiting Rotarian told us that his club is a big supporter of the  North East  Metro Intermediate District 916 and encouraged us to do the same.  More information can be found at the website: www.916schools.org.

Next time our speaker will be John Kaul, CEO Capitol Gains--lobbyist, photographer and documentary producer.  John Lennes --or just plain Lennes as we know him--will be the host.

At the conclusion of today's meeting, Jason sent us out, as always ---to Be The Inspiration!
