Hi Everyone...here is what happened this morning

We had no visiting Rotarians this morning but welcomed Nina Leiser as Craig's guest...and Craig is today's speaker.

Jason then introduced our two newest members... Kris Bowditch and Troy Bernard.  They are both very happy to be welcomed into our club and look forward to getting involved with our projects.  Next time you are at a meeting, introduce yourself to them both and get to know them better.

Nancy Lyner passed around a sign up sheet for our annual Salvation Army Bell Ringing... you have opportunities on December 4th, 6th and 12th.  And because the sheet filled up so quickly, Nancy is going to investigate to see if there are more slots where we can sign up.

Jeanne Matlock had placed a flyer on each table regarding the Drop In Center that had lots of good information on it.  She urged us to take a flyer and ask  gas stations to post  the flyer in the bathrooms where it would likely be seen by people who could benefit from  the Center.

Jason told us that Rotary and Habitat for Humanity have formed a partnership for Rotarians and Rotoractors to enhance service activities by providing access to resources and programming for clubs.  There is an opportunity for someone in our club to work towards or lead this initiative if there is enough of a desire.

The Rotarian in the Spotlight this week was Jim Meier..  This is where we learn something new about the Rotarian that we didn't know before.  We found out that Jim was a co-founder of the Illini Skydiving Club, that a cheetah ( yes a cheetah) once brushed his hat while he was wearing it, but he has NOT made 75 trips to the Boundary Waters...more like 74!

Get out your calendars to mark  down some dates for socializing :

December 11th--  Holiday Party- at Mallards in Bayport.  5:30pm -7:30 pm with food starting at 6:00pm.  101 5th Avenue South

Our speaker today was  Craig Leiser ,dressed in his usual Orange attire, and his topic was Making A Difference in the World.  Craig pointed out the many ways that Rotary and Rotarians are making a difference in our world today.  Some of the ways included being members of Stillwater Sunrise Rotary and engaging in our local projects, being members of District 5960 engaging in District projects, donating to the Rotary Foundation and also being part of Rotary International where global issues are addressed. Craig pointed out so many areas of engagement open to Rotarians:

Rotary International offers programs such as the International Conference being held in Hamburg, Germany this year.
There are also opportunities for trips around the world such as the Friendship Exchange and Group Cultural Exchange.
Global Scholarships and Peace Fellowships are made possible by and from the Rotary Foundation.
So many District and Global Grants can impact countries such as Kenya. Costa Rico, Guatemala, Turkey...and the list goes on.

Craig also touched on the creation of the Four Way Test we say every week at the beginning of the meeting.  He added that the suggested Fifth Way would be to "Have Fun While Doing Good in the World"!

Our speaker next week will be PingPing Yu , guest of Mary Parcheta, whose topic will be "China, 5000+ year history--Shen Yun helps revive Chinese culture.

At the conclusion of the meeting we were all sent out, as always...to Be the Inspiration.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING EVERYONE...Enjoy time with family and friends and be grateful and thankful for all the blessing we have in our lives when so many others in our country and around the world are struggling just to survive.  Peace, Janis
