Hi Everyone...here is what happened this morning

We did not have any visiting Rotarians this morning, but we had two brand new members join us.  Kris Bowditch sponsored by Brett Emmons and Troy Bernard sponsored Rick Robbins.  Welcome to the Club!

Del Peterson reported that all went well  with the dismemberment of the Lily Lake Fishing Pier.  Many hands made light work.
Barbara Tischart informed us that the Holiday Party will be at Mallards this year.  More details to follow...stay tuned.
There will not be a Board Meeting this Thursday due to a work commitment.

During the  Sergeant at  Arms portion of the meeting Rick told us that today was Saxophone Day ( I think it is Day and not Week) but at any  rate we discovered that our very own Jason Hanlon played the baritone saxophone in a state recognized jazz quartet in High School.  The pressure is on Jason to treat us all to a few tunes at an upcoming meeting...maybe at the Holiday Party??  It was also rumored that Bob McDowell can play a mean trumpet...just saying.  John Lennes shared that his grandson fell into the shark tank at the Minnesota Zoo and thankfully survived with all limbs intact.  He was just trying to pet one of the sharks.

Get out your calendars to mark  down some dates for socializing :

November 10th--Annual Foundation Celebration at Inwood Oaks in Oakdale ( the old Prom Center)
December 11th-- Tentative date for the Holiday Party---Arba Della and Barbara are the organizers

Our speaker today was Jon Stillman who gave us a top notch summary and history of Rotary's involvement in the End Polio Now project.  He began by telling us that polio was a devastating disease in the 1050's with no prevention and no cure. With the development of the Salk Vaccine in the mid 1950's things started to look up.    In 1978 the First 3H Grant came about ( the 3 H's being Health Hunger and Humanities) and that became the first attempt by Rotary to raise funds.  In 1985 the goal was set at $120 million but the actual amount raised was $240 million. When the Global Polio Eradication Initiative was created more organization came on board enabling more money to collected and used to eradicate polio.  Today there are only 3 countries with the wild polio virus--Pakistan, Afghanistan and Nigeria .  The goal for the next two years is $50 million.  Completely eradicating polio is Rotary's Top Priority.

Next week Denise Pontrelli who is Superintendent for Stillwater Public Schools will be the speaker and she will be updating us on the programs offered in the District.

At the conclusion of the meeting we were all sent out, as always...to Be the Inspiration.
