Hi Everyone...here is what happened this morning:

We had no visiting Rotarians  and No guests.

Arba Della thanked all who had already given her donations for the Family Means Cimarron and Landfall Youth Programs.  If  you haven't made a donation and would like to do so, just bring it to the party and Arba-Della will take it from there.

Jeanne Matlock had the same message regarding donations for the Youth Drop-In Center.  Bring your donation to the party and Jeanne will take care of it.

Nancy Lyner tells us that the Salvation Army Bell Ringing slots have all been filled.    If you have forgotten which day or time you signed up for, you can click on the calendar section of this newsletter for "Bell Ringing" and the schedule will pop up like magic...thanks Ted Nesse!
She also told us that if anyone was interested they could Adopt a Foster Care Family for Christmas...just contact Nancy for details.

Our speaker today was  Pete Orput who is the Washington County prosecutor.  He talked to us about telephone fraud/scams and crime prevention tips.  The number of fraudulent phone calls is increasing at an alarming rate and  not only on land lines which are easy targets for scammers but also on cell phones.  Telemarketing scammers are targeting senior citizens because they are very vulnerable.  They have money, are polite and most likely won't hang up, they fail to report fraud and many times don't even know they have been swindled.  Pete explained that when you get a phone call, you are either scared or excited and either way you stop thinking clearly and are sucked into the scam.  The scammers are after your social security number and any other information that can get from you--in other words--- Identity Theft.    Often used ploys are those targeting grandparents, Social Security and Medicare calls, and calls telling you that you have won a prize or are asked to give to a charity. The best thing you should do to avoid these pitfalls is to HANG UP  and try to verify the call.  If you cannot verify,  then call and report the scan to the police.

There won't be a morning meeting next week.  Instead there will be the Annual Christmas Party at Mallards in Bayport.  The meeting after that, the 18th will be the vocational visit at Meals from the Heart and then our next meeting will be on January  8,2019!!

At the conclusion of today's meeting, Jason sent us out, as always ---to Be The Inspiration!

Happy Holidays  to everyone and best wishes for a Safe and Healthy New Year...Janis
