Hi Everyone... this  is what happened this  morning:
We did not have any visiting Rotarians this morning  but we did have a few guests.  Bill Miller invited Sarah Stivland, a Stillwater School District Board member, and Bill Howell invited   Sara Latourneau as his guest.   We also welcomed Holly Finch who is the proud mother of Michael Finch Jr. one of the students who is a DaVinci prize winner.

Jason opened the meeting with the usual  announcements--check out the calendar portion of the newsletter.

Jason had to make a sad announcement this morning. As you know Mary Parcheta's husband, Jack , recently suffered a massive stroke while in Colorado  and was put in hospice.  Sadly Jack died on Sunday and we are waiting to hear what the arrangements are.  Keep Mary and family in your thoughts as she goes through a very difficult time in her life.  She and Jack would have been married for 53 years in May.

The Brewers Bazaar is just around the corner now and Jason tells us that the long range forecast is 74 degrees with "brilliant" sunshine.  The sign-up sheets are out and about, everyone is getting their purple shirts washed and pressed, and  the raffle tickets are available ( don't forget to pick yours  up).  Everyone is expected to sell or buy at least 5 tickets and more is better.  Let's make our 13th year the  best ever!

The Quad Club cook-off is moving along...Craig Leiser unearthed a 50 year old recipe featuring SPAM.  He and Nina prepared it this last weekend and he said it was so good that even their dog loved it--high praise indeed!  He is looking for another cook to assist  so reach out to Craig if this is calling your name.

Janis Donnelly was very proud to be recognized as a Major Donor to the Rotary Foundation.  In case you don't know what that means, Rotary International recognizes different levels of giving to the the Foundation by giving pins for certain  designations .  For example when you donate $1,000 you are recognized as a Paul Harris Fellow and get a lovely pin.   Additional monetary gifts result in more pins and when you give between $10,000 and $24,999 you  are named a Major Donor Level One and receive a beautiful pin and a really nice piece of crystal engraved with your name.  It is very easy to give to the Foundation and I would encourage everyone to give it a try...it's painless.

Jeanne Matlock announced the following:
Not sure if you are following the Minneapolis/St. Paul International Film Festival, but I saw a movie last week that was just riveting, “The Longest Night.” The movie was filmed in Ecuador by director, Gabriela Calcache. It is a docu-drama about a about a woman caught  in the web of human/sex trafficking. It is heartbreaking at times, triumphant at times, and frustrating at times. It was really well done, and when I went, the director was there for Q and A.

It will be showing again April 14 and April 18th. St. Anthony Main Theater (across the Hennepin Bridge). I sincerely hope you will be able to attend. I was able to spread a little information and make a plug for Rotary International (and Minnesota) during the Q/A.

During the Sergeant of  Arms portion of the meeting, Rick announced that $600 was collected for Hoops for Hope that goes to  Fast For Hope so good job for all the participants.  Craig Leiser came out in last place and so next year can enter his bracket for free!  In third place was Rick Heidick, second went to Jeff Nelson and Dave Waldschmidt was the grand winner.  Congratulations to all !

Brent Voight thanked the people who helped select the students who would receive the three STRIVE scholarships this year. They were John Lennes, Craig Leiser, and Jerry McConnell.  The winners will be announced and recognized at a future meeting.

Our speaker this morning was Bev Petrie who is the executive director of the Partnership Plan which is a non-profit that supports the Stillwater Area Public Schools.  That was started in 2007 at the Junior High and was moved in 2010 to the Senior High.  The DaVinci Fest, as it is known, celebrates the Arts and Science Fairs and has become a huge community event.  In addition to the Art Fair and Science Fair there is also a Film Fest, Spoken Word, Upcycling  Fair and Stillwater Science Challenge.  Winning art students get to participate in an Art Show at the Art Guild Gallery in Stillwater.  Science Fair winners advance to the Twin Cities Regional Science Fair with fees paid by the Partnership Plan. Two of the Grand Champions were present today.  Marin Brandt, the Upcycling  Grand Champion showed us her beautiful creations made of recycled materials.  Michael Finch Jr, winner of the DaVinci Award showed us his amazing sculptures created by recycling exotic materials.  Watch the video for more information.   https://storyboardfilmsmn.wistia.com/medias/oxw727iusm
